  • Hmm ... so I've forgotten about xanga for a while.

Let's see ... it's cooler out here in Hong Kong now.  No more of the summer high heat.  Still looking for a job though.  More will posted later (sorry, don't have time right now).

  • So yeah, I'm in Hong Kong now.  It's a lot more humid than Michigan, and warmer too ( compared to recent Michigan temps).  The whole time at the airport and on the flight over I was quite calm.  It didn't feel exciting or anything, just as if it was another plane ride.  Once I arrived at Hong Kong it didn't bring about any excitement at all either.  Everything just seemed so ho hum.  The flight from Chicago to Hong Kong was one of the better ones I've had between the two cities.  The first one that wasn't at or near full capacity, and despite all the families on board I heard a baby crying for a total of 2 seconds the entire trip.  The food could have been better though.  Once at Hong Kong I could just use my Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card to get in, it was a short waiting timewith 5 people in front of me and when it was my turn it took the immigration officer 10 seconds to process everything and for me to clear customs.  (While all the visitors to wait in a really long line).

However, getting ready to go was a major pain in the butt.  So much to do, so much to clean, and half the stuff in my apartment isn't even mine, but I have to take care of it.  Thanks to everyone who helped especially Richard, Luis, and Stuart.  Luis flew into Detroit earlier that night, drove up to Lansing, hung out with us, then still came and helped me finish up into the wee hours of the morning.  Richard also stayed up into the wee hours of the morning helping out despite having to get up before 7 am to go to work the next .... er .... later that morning.  Stuart started helping in the afternoon and helped out overnight.  We did finish and got to go eat breakfast nice and early.  All three are also helping me deliver stuff to certain people or places.  Once again, thanks Richard, Luis, and Stuart (in alphabetical order of last name - no don't know why, just the order that came out).

Oh yeah, I no longer have an active cell phone.  Actually, since my billing cycle has not ended yet, you could call but since my phone is off all you'll get is the voicemail, which I won't check.

Edit:  I gotta change the timestamp.  Hong Kong is currently 12 hours ahead of the Eastern Time Zone.

  • That new xanga updating the password thing was so annoying.  Wanted me to "update" to a password longer than 6 characters, including at least one number or symbol, supposedly to make it safer.  Well, my password is already longer than 6 characters, heck I have more than 6 letters (of the alphabet) in my password, and multiple numbers and symbols.  Now I gotta come up with something new that I can remember.  Tsk, tsk, tsk, what a pain in the butt.
  • August 16th.  The day (morning) I fly out of Lansing to Hong Kong on a one way ticket.  That's less than 2 weeks.  I'm gonna miss it here.  Of course the people that are here too but a ... .... .  Anyways, that means I need to get rid of a bunch of stuff.  I've gotten rid of all my furniture.  However, I need to get rid of my van, and a bunch of kitchen stuff.  Anyone interested?  I also have an air mattress.  I have a few other things that I can't think of right now that I would likely get rid of, so if your curious, just ask.

There are also a ton of things that I need to take care of before leaving.  So pray for me that I would be able to get those things done smoothly.  If you're not religious, um ... ... just wish me the best of luck.  Yeah I know, August 16th is like a week or two before most of you college kids get back.  It is unfortunate that the timing worked out this way, but it had to be this way.  No I am not excited about leaving.  I am actually sad.

  • I've talking a lot with my mom about my future in the past several months.  After our latest talk a couple hours ago, it has been seemingly decided that if I don't find a job by the end of July, I will move back to Hong Kong.  I will probably not be flying out the end of July, but will acquire a ticket to go sometime in August.  Now what the heck am I going to do with all my stuff?  Granted I have a lot less then most people, but moving around the USA a uhaul makes things simpler.  I'll probably have to get rid of all my furniture, since it won't make sense to ship those over, especially since space is at a premium in Hong Kong.  (Not to mention that things tend to be of different sizes - smaller in Hong Kong).

I really don't want to leave, having moved around so much growing up I would have liked to stay in a place for a while.  While I don't look forward to creating a new social network, this decision is probably best for my family.  Won't get into the details.  I guess with the job search I would have had to move anyway, so really my issue might be that I prefer the US style of living a little better than the Hong Kong style.  It'll be harder to keep with friends as well since it is about 12 hours time difference (11 during the winter daylight savings) compared to just a few hours in the US.

This is the plan, thus subject to changes.  It is not a guarantee, but you can bet on it.  The only current variable factor with any real impact (that I see) is finding a job.
